‘Golnesa’ wins award at Phenicien Filmfest

‘Golnesa’ grabs best feature film award from 3rd Phenicien Int’l Film Festival in France.

‘Golnesa’ feature by Sattar Chamani-Gol has grabbed Best Feature Film Award from the 3rd edition of the Phenicien International Film Festival (PIFF) in France.

‘Golnesa’ attended the competition section of the third Phenician Independent Directors Film Festival in Lyon of France as Iran’s sole representative.

The film succeeded to win several nods from different sections of the festival, and ultimately bagged best film award of the event.

More than 195 films by directors from all over the world participated at this year’s Independent Directors film festival while only seven of these films were picked to compete for a chance to win one of the awards.

The films were screened simultaneously from April 1st to April 6th, 2019 in the cities of Lyon, Paris and Beirut.

‘Golnesa’ tells the story of a young Afghan couple, Golmammad and Golnesa, who are illegal immigrants in Iran.

Working in a traditional brick-making kiln in the suburbs of Tehran, they have to deal with challenges of illegal immigration as well as routine life hardships.

The film has so far taken part at some global film events, including 51st WorldFest-Houston Int’l Film Festival, 21st Brooklyn Film Festival in the US, 3rd R.E.D Int’l Film Festival in Norway, 14th Kazan Int’l Festival of Muslim Cinema in the Russian Republic of Tatarstan, 3rd Slemani Int’l Film Festival as well as 17th Dhaka Int’l Film Festival (DIFF) in Bangladesh.

Some of the accolades won by ‘Golnesa’ are award for best director and best director of photography from the 14th Kazan Int’l Festival of Muslim Cinema and best feature film award from the 2018 Global Nonviolent Film Festival in the US. 

The Phoenician International Film Festival is an Independent film festival with the mission to celebrate the motion picture and to provide a platform for filmmakers to have their work awarded and screened.
